Reasons Why I Run the World
1. It's faster than walking.
2. Running is meditative. It allows me to observe my thoughts and become in touch with only my body, my breathing and my physical self.
3. Running is... natural. Fight or flight instincts evoked by stress at work or emotional dissonance are instantly remedied (especially since fighting is frowned upon at the office).
4. Running is strengthening. It feels easier every time.
5. Running feels productive. With simple swift motions, I can exercise nearly every inch of my body and cover massive ground - both literally and metaphorically.
6. The road doesn't judge me. I can put my weight into her, go fast or slow or limpy. She's in no rush, but she often seems to cheer me on.
7. The road is reliable. On a lonely night or a non-stop day with no alone-time, I can escape to her at all hours. She's always there, no matter where in the world. She's also a great listener.
8. It can hurt to run. It's hard and never fails to burn after a while. Next to some of the pain and suffering in this world? It is humbling, and the least I can do.
9. Anyone can do it. If you set your mind to it and build your way up, a single mile can become thirteen.
10. The views don't hurt.
